Missionary Log 200805.1:
I am now sitting in my room, 0301a of the Rice's building at St. Mary's University. The journey of the past 9 months (September-April) has been long and with its trials. However, the Lord has seen me through and tomorrow I will begin my training to reach the people of Halifax.
I took the train to arrive here I left on April 30 at 15:10 and I did not arrive until 18:30 the next day. At first I thought I wouldn't even catch my train to Montreal, due to complications with a job I got working with the Campus Safety Department. However, despite red lights and the traffic of Ottawa rush hour, the Lord's hand was upon me and I made it. The good bye between me and my mom was short but I did thank her for allowing the Lord to be my parent this summer and guide me on this journey despite her objections. And again, I thank you mom, the Lord won't let you (or me) down!
And then I was off on the Canadian Railway lines headed to Halifax. I always loved taking the train because of how it is a very and smooth way to travel and it is a part of Canadian history. I, however, had no time to ponder this as I pulled my laptop out and attempted to get my mind off my tears. This is, after all, the first time I have ever done something completely on my own and at first I was afraid and nervous. However, with the Lord's comfort and strength, I overcame it and focused on my journey.
The ride to Montreal was smooth and my dinner at the MacDonald's at the station was filling. The train was due to leave at 18:30h. I registered my two suitcases and then I got pop and chips for the trip and I waited patiently for it at around 17:57 (boarding was at 18:00). Although we didn't board until 18:10 something went wrong just before 18:30- the engine needed to be replaced. According to the attendants it would take at least half and hour, but that stretched into 2 hours. We weren't out of there until 20:30. That meant we would be late getting into Halifax, but I was more concerned with trying to get some shut-eye.
I got to sleep at around 00:30, and I could feel the train start, stop and then go back words a few times. My hope was to wake up in New Brunswick, in the geographical area of my birth (I was born and raised in Charlottetown for 11 years), but I discovered that we were still in Quebec. I was up at 05:00 to see the sun rise (sort of, due to cloud cover) and to enjoy a bran muffin with apple juice. Then I went back to sleep for a little while, with full knowledge that we weren't going to be their by 16:20. The good news is that I can be reimbursed by 50% of the travel fair for the return trip. I think I will take them up on that offer because, despite the delays of this one, I still love the train!
During the day I did play Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds on my computer but I also studied the next section my Bible Study booklet Prayer: An Adventure With God. I learned about how if we remember that God is on our side, than we can face anything because nothing is impossible with God. I only have 5 more studies in it to do and then I'll have to purchase another one. I think I'll get the one about integrity. God has highlighted the fact that I lie way too easily. I do not want to be a woman who speaks lies, but speaks truth because Jesus (the love of my life) is truth. Therefore, I want to learn more on what the Bible says on integrity. Today, I looked up verses on the issue of lying/integrity and here is a sample of what I found:
Psalm 5:6, “You destroy those who tell lies; bloodthirsty and deceitful men the Lord abhors.”
Proverbs 12:19, “Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.”
Proverbs 10:9, “The man of integrity walks securely, but he who takes crooked paths will be found out.”
Proverbs 20:23, “The Lord detests differing weights, and dishonest scales do not please him.”
Proverbs 12:22, “The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in men who are truthful.”
It is clear from theses passages what God thinks about truth and that He hates lying. It's weird, that I do not like being lied too either but yet I still lie. For instance, I told my mom that I had lost my Game boy Advance SP. However I really sold it in order to get money for my Halifax trip but that money I ended up spending to go out for dinner; instead of asking mom for money because she already spent a lot for me. I also sold my Final Fantasy V game and my Civilization IV: Warlords and Rome: Total War Games. Why? Because I wanted to make money, but I wasn't as solid as I was now about how I should spend it. So, now my mom will probably read this and she now knows the truth, I hope and ask that she forgives me because I really do want to change my sinful habit of deceit.
That was about it for what I did on the train.
So, myself and another participant, arrived at 18:30- too late to enjoy Mexi Calli Rosa's but enjoyed a lovely Subway meal and to be their in time for the welcome message. There we worshipped, prayed, broke some of the ice and learned a little about why we are here. The one thing I must always remember is that I am here because of Jesus. Jesus is the reason that I am here in Halifax to preach the good news and to grow in my faith. For Jesus said, "a part from me you can do nothing" (John 14.27, NIV). Which reminds me, I need to continuing my research in to the Holy Spirit, the third member of the trinity I don't know as much about, as I could. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is the only way I can live for Jesus and remain in Him as Jesus explained in John 14. So, I think I may get a Bible Study on that too.
And now it is 00:09 AST and my roommate, missionaria40*, is now tired and we must arise at 07:00 in order to prepare for the training that awaits us. I will look forward to what the C4C staff have in store for us.
*Due to the secrecy of this web site and for the protection of my roommate, missionaria40 is her official network identity. We cannot afford to have our identities revealed on the internet for we cannot let our enemies' missionaries discover our plan of action and disrupt our operations.
