Missionary Log 200805.10:
So, one week has been complete in our mission. I have met a lot of people who are serious about their faith and we have already started to reach out to people.
We are mostly supposed to work during the day between 8:30AM-5:00PM because we have training/outreach to do everyday (except Tuesday). On Mondays we have the weekly meeting where we worship, share about our outreach successes and we learn something about being a Christian and reaching out to people. On Tuesdays it is free time and food groups*, Wednesdays are when we have our discipleship groups (Bible Study), Thursdays are when we have our food groups* again and a Social, and on Fridays we have "Free Time With A Purpose"*.
I am now working at the Island Beach Company that is situated right next to Pier 21 which is where the cruise ship tourists and crew get off. I helped them set up the store between May 5-May 8. It was fun. They have a very professional attitude and they do know how to control their tongues (aka don't swear every time they open their mouths). That shows that they do value ethics and professionalism. Something that a lot of the people of Zomax lacked.
So, I really do love being around other Christians. It is really nice to be with people who share my values and enjoy doing what I like to do. One of them is the fact that they do not automatically shout "Let's break out the booze and get this party started!" like some people I know. This just proves that you do not need alcohol to have fun, besides the Bible condemns irresponsible drinking and getting drunk every chance you get. Yes I know that the Bible says that Jesus did have a glass of wine, but it never mentions Him getting drunk. Why? Because the scriptures in the Old Testament condemn that.
OH, I forgot, the people I am referring to have a tendency to pick and choose which parts of the Bible work in their favour and then reject the parts that don't and determine they cannot be Scripture. It makes me wonder whether or not those people really can call themselves a Christian since their word is clearly put above God's Word and their authority over His authority...
I'm sure they're not the only ones. I mean people try to mix man's fallible word with God's infallible Word since the 1800's when the Church rejected Genesis 1-11 to be religious myths, not really history or irrelevant. See Answers in Genesis in order to see that I am correct. However, I am not like them and I do not reject Genesis but I think it is actual history. My big reason? Jesus in many passages, including Matthew 24:37, “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man” (NIV) and Luke 11:51, “from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible for it all"(NIV). If Jesus says that Genesis is real history from Genesis 1:1 to the last verse in Genesis 50, and Jesus never lied, then it must be real history. I always trust Jesus above anyone else, so I now no longer accept the evolutionary theory as fact.
Go to Answers in Genesis and you'll see that evolution is not worth your time!!
So, yesterday during Free Time With A Purpose, I got to watch the movie called 'Sister Act' and a lot of other students came out to watch it! It is such a good movie, and about 8 new people came out. One of them is a girl who became a Christian through last years project and she is also a gamer!!! Yes, a girl who plays video games (they are a rare member of our species, it is unbelievable).
Today I went through the city with 2 other girls to do surveys and ask people around about the city. Only the last 3 questions were more specific to Christianity, but we did get to share the gospel with girl (Praise the Lord!). She didn't accept Jesus, because she wasn't ready to make the decision but we let her keep the "Would You Like to Know God Personally?" booklet that we use to share the gospel with people and we encouraged her to read the Bible and and she will be in our prayers too.
Other than that, I think that that is it. Oh, I forgot, I did find a Church called Deep Water that runs in the movie theatre in the mall. I really did enjoy going there, and I think I'll stick to it. So, I cannot wait to go tomorrow!
So, that's it. Keep me in your prayers and I'll see you in August.
God Bless!
